January so far.
I have drafted a few entries about Christmas and New Years, but I need to put photos on there. Hopefully this week sometime.
It’s hard to believe that it’s ten days into the New Year already.
There has been some excitement so far this year. First, Lauren went to Florida with Nana and Papa, and stayed for the week at their house as the only member of our family. The Carlsons were there as well, so she and Annabelle had a fantastic time. Nana and Papa said she was a delightful houseguest, and she was able to have independence. She and Annabelle went to lunch and she called Brad because she wasn’t sure what to do when they brought her a “leather thing.” Life skills!
She also took her first solo flight, which I did not do until I was about 20! (I guess that is only 6 years for her....EEK!). She did great, and she was able to sit next to another unaccompanied minor which eased her mind a lot. It was so great to see her when she got off the plane. It was strange not having her here for an entire week, but I am so thankful she was able to have that experience.
Second, Alison was jumping on our neighbour’s trampoline and she fractured her finger....GRR. What is it about her and neighbor’s yards? She broke her arm about 18 months ago in our neighbour’s yard in London. It was confirmed fractured on Friday after a trip to the pediatric orthopedist. The good news is that it is a common fracture that will heal on its own. Buddy taping is the only therapy, and she should be back at it at in 3 weeks. The bad news is that she is missing her first 2 gymnastics meets. There was one this weekend and there is another one next weekend. Her goal is to compete in the meet at the end of the month, which is 4 weeks to do the day after the injury. She has still been doing a lot of conditioning and a lot of moves one-handed. She will be staying away from trampolines for a while.
Third, Archie’s staples have been removed but the smart dog has figured out how to open the doors using the lever door handles. We really have to watch him carefully as the kids are not great about keeping their floors clear of socks and other foreign objects that Archie loves to eat. He is learning that he can’t go upstairs on his own, but our best defense is keeping a lead on him at all times so that he is easy to grab. Also, he can’t open most doors with one try, so it’s easy to hear his attempts at being sneaky.
Lastly, the kids were initially intended to go back to in person school starting tomorrow (Drew full time and the girls on the A/B schedule), but it has been pushed back at least a week. I am not super confident they are going back in person before the end of the month. Only time will tell.
Drew has been wearing his Titans jersey all week long in preparation for theTitans playoff game today. Unfortunately, they were not victorious, but it was a good season. Here’s to the Browns!
Busy life!
