November in Review

It is hard to believe it is already December.  November is always full of big events: 2 birthdays and Thanksgiving.  This year was the added excitement of the election that went on for 5 extra days.  And then throw in virtual school for the second half of the month and it's was a bit crazy!  But fun as well.

DREW'S BIRTHDAY

For Drew's birthday, it was election day.  I am sure there is some math problem that will figure out the next time his birthday will be on the day of a presidential election; but I can't be bothered to figure that out.  Also, did you know that election day is the first Tuesday following Monday in November (as in, election day could never be the November 1.)  I had to look it up, it will be 2048, in 28 years.

We celebrated Drew's birthday a couple days early with Mum Mum and the Deans since they were here.  Drew was SO excited when he opened Mum Mum's card and it had a $50 bill inside!  I don't think he had ever seen one of those before.  He purchased Madden for the Xbox with his Grant.

On his actual birthday, he got to sleep in since it was a holiday.  He had a low-key day with the election on in the background.  His friend Jack and his brother Ben came over and brought him a card and a Minecraft giftcard, how thoughtful!  Then they played in the backyard for quite a while.  And he finally received his away Chelsea that was all he really asked for.

ARCHIE GOT A NEW LOOK
We like to call him Foxtail Puppy.  He had quite an adventurous month of his own.  He spent the night overnight at the vet on fluids because he apparently swallowed something without us knowing, and he was having some stomach issues.  Thankfully he was ok!  A week later, I took him to the groomers for a clean up and a bath because we couldn't see his eyes anymore and they said he was too matted for jsut a bath, so they would need to give him a haircut.  I was shocked when I went to collect him, he looks like a totally different dog!  Drew cried when he came home, but he is still our cute, crazy puppy just with a lot less hair, except for his face and his tail.  I did something I thought I would never do: I bought him a sweater.
And then he got neutered!  The vet said it was like nothing ever happened, he was not really phased.

THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving was not quite what we had expected.  We were planning to host Mum Mum, Granddaddy and the Deans; however, the week before Thanksgiving, the governor announced no more than 8 people from 2 households should be gathering together until December 13.  So, we had to put the kabash on the 10 of us getting together and be together in our respective state bubbles.  We still had most of the usual dishes and Mom was here to help for most of the day.  We watched the Macy's Thankgiving Day Parade, as well as the 2 NFL games.  And the kids mostly just ate rolls and fruit.  And we zoomed our family from TN, CO, KY and OR.  As Blair said, Anne and Charlie were winning at Thanksgiving as they were on Zoom from their hot tub at their house in Breckinridge.  While it was not the same as being all together, at least we got to see their faces!

And we ended the night with the firepit

LAUREN'S BIRTHDAY
It is amazing that I have been a mom for 14 years.....they are so right about the days being long but the years being short.  Lauren's birthday was pretty low-key this year as well, but she said she had a good day.  We did not do any Black Friday shopping in person; there is no way I would go anywhere near shopping this year.  We went to Louisville Illuminations, a light show at the Parklands which was similar to Kew Gardens.  It was a mild night, which was good, and the lights were beautiful.  There is something about lights at Christmastime that is magical!  Afterwards, we ordered Olive Garden for dinner and went back to Mum Mum's house.  Mum Mum made an AMAZING gluten free, egg free chocolate cake with really yummy icing.  Even Drew ate it, which is saying something.

The kids all spent a lot of time during their five days off with three of the neighbors, which makes me so happy!  Our next door neighbor has a trampoline and we have a backyard with 2 soccer goals, so they have lots to keep them busy.  The weather was great for playing outside.

We ended the weekend by decorating for Christmas!
