Halloween 2020

Late October....hard to believe this crazy year is nearly over.  We had some fun in the last few days of October!

David turned 40 on October 29, and we hosted a family party to help him celebrate.  I am so thankful that we were able to celebrate his birthday in person!!!  We had Taziki's (Greek food) that was super yummy and we did Jackson's favourite thing: Kahoots!  Since he is just starting to read, he types random letters and it is anyone's guess.  It works out best because then Jackson is in control and doesn't have to worry about coming in second, and it's an even playing field for everyone else.  I totally love entertaining!

David and Blair had a weekend away in Paris, KY and Jackson stayed with my mom for the weekend.

Friday, mom and Jackson came over before Drew came home from school and it was nice because Drew got to spend some time with the girls.  He was enjoying watching Lauren play SIMS.  Alison and Mum Mum did some work on her skeleton costume.  Mum Mum is much better at things like that than I am.  I had purchased a black shirt and some white tape and we were going to put tape on the black shirt for the bones, but Mum Mum helped her make a pattern and cut the shirt instead, which worked out much better.

Friday early evening, Nana and Papa arrived.  Since they are heading to Florida in a few days, they wanted to make sure they could see our house earlier than Christmas!  We enjoyed some filets from Texas Roadhouse Butcher Shop, which were excellent!

SIDENOTE: Texas Roadhouse Butcher Shop is a new initiative from Texas Roadhouse to compete with Omaha Steakhouse after the demand for their steaks at the start of COVID.  As of now, the steaks can be ordered through Amazon, so remember that for Christmas.  Really, really tasty!!!

Saturday: HALLOWEEN!  No soccer game for Drew, but Alison did have gymnastics including a costume contest.  She wore her skeleton shirt with her leotard underneath.  And Lauren had her first musical theatre class, which she enjoyed!

One of the neighbors arranged some Halloween activities, which started with a costume parade at 5 PM.  There were SO many kids!!!!  A lot more than I realised.  There is a state trooper who lives on the Court, and he led the parade.  Each house had a different method of distributing candy: one house had ziploc bags with candy laid out on their driveway, one house had individual cups of candy on a table, a few houses had someone handing it out, a couple of houses were handing out candy with tongs.  I just left a big bucket of candy in the front yard because we were all walking along with the kids.  It was a quick and efficient way to trick or treat, much quicker than going up to each front door.  We enjoyed meeting a few more the neighbors and seeing all the kids.  Lauren actually joined us as well; she was a very late addition, but she did some clown make-up.  She was definitely swayed by the candy.

There was also a BBQ food truck, which was great!  We waited a bit too long to get our orders because we missed the loaded tots, but the BBQ was really good.

Drew's friend Jack and his little brother Ben came over and they traded candy with our kids and Jackson.  Nana was here with them, and she said they were all very civilized about it.  We got a bit more candy with nuts since several people pre-packaged their candy.  I am so glad Jackson was here, and I think he had a really good time.  He got a LOT of candy, as they all did!

Oh and Archie swallowed a sock late in the evening.......

Halloween 2020 was definitely a success.  The kids dressed up and got candy.  And the adults were able to do some socialising as well.  Drew got to hang out with some friends; the girls are not there quite yet.  In a different year, I imagine here we would have gone to more parts of the neighborhood than just our court, and the girls may have even gone out with their friends.  Had we still been in London, I am not sure there would have even been trick or treating this year.
