One Month Exactly
One month to the day, we have been reunited with the not as essential items that we had from London. Once again, the house is packed with boxes and paper and random pieces of furniture in the middle of the living room, suitcases in the hallway. There are broken down boxes and open boxes full of paper everywhere!
But, the kitchen is nearly all unpacked, and I was able to
make pasta and chicken parmesan for dinner last night. (thank you for your help, Mum Mum!)
The girls have unpacked (nearly)all of their boxes, which just means
that there are piles and piles of all the random trinkets that girls
collect. The most challenging bit of
unpacking is trying to find a spot for all the random momentos and
trinkets. (I will not say if it is my
least or most favourite part of the process.)
Hopefully by the end of the weekend, we will have a bit of a control in
all the kids rooms. Drew has so much less stuff than the girls. He basically has Legos, books, and a small bucket of trinkets. The girls on the other hand have boxes and drawers full of stationary, fidget toys, books, momentos, key chains, and who knows what else!
The team of movers were great. They were very friendly and chatty and loved
Archie. And they got to the bar into the
basement, which was no easy feat. I am
not sure how they did, but it looks amazing.
They were so grateful for the pizza I bought them for lunch; they said that
not a lot of people actually provided lunch for them, which is baffling to
me. They work really hard! They were also telling me about a lady who
they moved who would only let people of a certain skin color enter her
house. When I told the kids about that
at dinner, Lauren said “That just makes my blood boil to hear that!” And Drew said “I bet she is a Trump
supporter.” They were all very
fascinated that we moved from England.
I am aiming to have all but the basement sorted by the end
of next week. And at least have an idea
of the items we need to purchase. I know
for sure we need a desk for Lauren, as she is currently using a folding table
as a desk, and some shelves for the closet in the basement.
In other news, I am the proud driver of a 2021 Honda Odyssey
and I LOVE IT!!!! It is such a
comfortable drive and I love the Apple Car Play feature. The kids are happy and Brad is just happy
that I am happy. We debated about a
three row SUV, but the space in the trunk was just not going to be big
enough. And the van was actually less
expensive! The only negative of our cars
is that since we have no driving record here for nearly 6 years, we are being
treated as if we were 16 year olds for the insurance rates. But hopefully that will change soon. Both of the girls said “This car is like the
business class of cars!”
The craziest thing we did yesterday was purchase the X-box
that we promised the kids. They
installed all the TVs except the massive one in the basement yesterday as
well. I have a feeling that is where
they are going to spending a lot of time.
Brad and I enjoyed a G&T on the screened in porch while
watching some telly last night, which I could get used to.
Glad you are getting settled and got something to drive😄.
