Eerily Quiet after a crazy move in day!!!
This post is from Wednesday, September 30!
For the first time since March, I am in my house by myself (with Archie!). It is eerily quiet, but so good. It is so odd for many different reasons. I could get used to this.
I do love my kids and my husband and I have enjoyed spending time at home with them, but I am so happy to just sit here and try and get my house organised.
Yesterday was CRAZY.......the movers arrived around 11:30, which was a bit later than expected, but it was ok because it gave Brad a chance to assemble some of the furniture while we waited. At first, there were 6 movers and one of the first things they did was take a huge chunk out of the wall down to the basement while taking the ping pong table down. Oops, so the main guy in charge left with one truck to get some spackle to repair the hole. While he was gone, three of the movers had to leave to go to another job and the truck with the remaining boxes of our stuff was on the truck at Home Depot. But it all worked out.
Mom was here to help and she put Alison to work helping her unpack the kitchen boxes. The one item that Alison was THE most excited about was out Ninja blender, which was in the top of the first box that they opened. She was SOOOOOOOOO thrilled and immediately started to make herself a smoothie. Thankfully, I had placed an order for clicklist with yogurt and frozen fruit.
The treasure hunt has begun.....We have discovered that we stored the changing table, the glider and the bed rails which we don't really need anymore. But we may be able to give them to Christian and Andi to use for their new baby. Who know what else we are going to find amidst the boxes. We found a stuffed horse on the top of the china cabinet! Who knows how long that had been there.
We met several of the neighbors yesterday. One of the ladies who lives down the street is the organiser and she gave us the roster of the neighbors! I love it!! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.
Anne brought us all dinner from Chic-Fil-A, and Christian came over to help putting beds together, and Andi and Levi came as well. It was so great to have all the family here in our house on the day we moved in. I cannot wait until we are all settled and we are able to have everyone over for a meal we prepare. (Brad still needs to get his grill and smoker and we need a bit more seating...)
Nearly everything is assembled. Brad assembled the 3 bar stools for the island, the kitchen table and 6 chairs as well as Alison's nightstand. Hopefully he can assemble Drew and Alison's beds tonight. We have the mattresses now.
Drew was super excited to ride the bus today, we were out there waiting for about 5 minutes before it came, but there are 2 stops before ours when you can see the bus, so tomorrow we can just wait inside. He got right on and didn't even look back, I cannot wait to hear about his bus ride when he gets home today. He was thrilled to see his friends on the bus as well.
The girls wer a different story. Alison was literally putting her shoe on inside the house as the bus pulled up. I didn't get to take a single photo. They were definitely not as thrilled as Drew. but I am equally as excited to see them when they get home!
I have been very productive today so far: I took Archie for a long walk, got the Wi-fi working, unpacked almost all of the boxes of clothes in our bedroom, and took delivery of the mattresses. That was all after I sat and enjoyed a cup of coffee on the sofa in the sunroom first enjoying the peace and quiet!!!
Drew was very happy when he got off the bus and he said "Jack and his brother are coming down in a few minutes." And they did! They came down and played basketball with Drew in the driveway for about half an hour and then they went down to Jack's house and played laser tag, which Drew really enjoyed. Jack's younger brother Ben is in kindergarten, and he reminds me of Saul because he doesn't stop talking! He was funny because I gave them some water and he said "I don't like this water, it's England water." Hilarious.
I got a call from Alison at about 4:20 to say that they got off at the wrong stop, and they might be a but late because they had to walk home. They were about .3 of a mile away (per find my iPhone.) And when they got home, Lauren said "It was only a 7 minute walk and we used to live in London so it's not that big of a deal!"
All the beds are assembled, so everyone was able to sleep in their new bed on their new mattress last night.
Wow, lots of activity. You earned that coffee break! Glad Mauzy clan there to help
