Weekend musings

Busy and productive weekend:

  • Drew played in his first soccer match (even though I keep calling it football)- The team was not quite up to the same standard as Dundonald, but he had a good time.
  • Brad and I went to test drive the Kia Telluride, but walked away from the dealership after being unable to get a good deal
  • Went for a hike at the Parklands with Mom and Anne & Charlie.  Archie LOVED it!
  • Met up with some old friends in our old neighborhood
  • Did my first big shop at Kroger
  • Bought 6 mattresses (Wow, that's a lot of mattresses)
See below for some additional thoughts....

We went over to see our old friends the Duncans for pizza and smores!  It was fab!!!  They have 3 boys who are one year ahead of each of our kids.  Drew and their youngest are new besties now.  They had a great time jumping on the trampoline, then playing Minecraft.  It was so sweet to see them together.  The older kids didn't really talk to each other much, which I would expect from teens/tweens.  They also have a dog, Rosie, who is about 3 years old, but she & Archie had a nice time together.  Their yard is HUGE and fenced in, so he had a great time.  She is really the first dog Archie has interacted with since we have been here.  It was so good for my soul to see them and catch up.

The girls enjoyed playing on the trampoline as well.  And then Alison hyperextended her knee....but it seems better today.

Today, I went to Kroger (the grocery) for a big grocery shop.  I think the biggest difference is the size of the store, but also the amount of options for each category of item.  For example, there was an entire case of yogurt, with so many different flavors and brands.  And there were about 4 different aisles of snack foods; there are so many options.  Also, the gluten free stuff is mixed in with the normal stuff.  And they have baggers who bag your groceries for you.  I admit I do miss my grocery delivery, but it's a significant fee here to pay for delivery.  They have clicklist which is basically like click and collect, but you still have to carry them all into the house from your car.  But I might try it out once we get into our house.  I needed to go to the grocery to remind myself of all the American items.

Drew has been watching NFL football pretty much all day.....he did take a break to watch the Chelsea match, although they had a disappointing outcome against Liverpool as one of their players received a red card and then it pretty much unravelled from there.   Hopefully Pulisic will be back from his injury soon; the team really needs him.  Drew has decided to be a Titans fan, which is much better than a Browns fan.  That way, he has a team to connect with my family as he is most definitely a Michigan fan through and through.  They are 2-0 so far, and he got to see a sudden death overtime today, which doesn't happen all that often.  The Chiefs were victorious over the Chargers with a REALLY long field goal to win.  Drew knows a lot about football, and he has also been learning about baseball as well.

We went to the AT&T store to get Alison's phone up and running, and there was definitely a person wearing a TRUMP 2020 mask.  That is taking it a bit too far.  It's one thing to have a sign in your front yard, it's a bit much to wear it over your mouth.....

It was a beautiful autumn weekend.  Here's to a productive week, the first where Drew will be at school everyday and the girls know what they need to do.
