I am getting old....

I have now reached the peak of maturity.  As soon as I deposit Drew at school, I turn on NPR to listen to on the way home from school drop-off.  The interesting bit about listening to NPR recently is that it is my city that is national news, even international news.  The Breonna Taylor verdict was announced on Wednesday, and the city has been on a curfew from 9 PM - 6:30 AM since then; and it has been extended through the weekend.  I am not really sure this image of Louisville is what I would like my friends in London to have of our new city.  There is so much more to Louisville than that, and the people who are setting fire to trashcans and breaking windows on the library and shooting policemen are not a reflection of the city.  In fact, they are just a small minority.  Most of the people who are protesting are doing in peacefully and want to express their disbelief of how we are going backwards in terms of race.

In other news, Brad and I had our first date in Louisville, at Texas Roadhouse of course!  It was a great experience!  The food was great, the service was excellent and the atmosphere is really fun.  We met the owner of the restaurant, and he comped our meal for us.  An unexpected act of kindness.  As we had been seated just after 5 (store closed at 7:30 due to the curfew), we were finished at 6:30 so we decided to go the BMW dealership to look at Brad's car.  When we arrived, we saw the car that he had selected on his first trip to the dealership.  The salesman came out and said the strangest thing had happened: a customer had been test driving that car and the hood was not latched properly and it flew open when they started driving on the highway, which damaged the hood.  So that was off the table.

The salesman was able to find a similar car, a year newer in white, so we test drove that one (after ensuring the hood was properly closed), and decided it was good.  So we (I mean Brad) haggled a bit over the price and we came to an agreeable deal.  Brad has purchased his car.  BUT, he can't drive it off the lot until we have insurance and we can't get insurance until he has an unexpired drivers license.  He has an appointment on Monday, the day of closing.  So, he will be driving his new Beamer on Tuesday.  I know he can't wait!

An interesting note on the driver's license.  Both of our licenses expired this year, and they expire a month after your birthday.  Because of coronavirus, they have extended the grace period for anyone who has a license that expires from March to September 30 2020!  Therefore, both of us are able to renew our license without having to retake the driving test.  I am not even sure I would pass it now, after nearly 30 years of driving.  I don't think they are quite so meticulous as in England, where you have to observe the mirror-signal-maneuver business.

Drew has found his soccer club: Elite FC. I am very happy for him!   He is pretty funny about commercials.  He can repeat all the ads that are shown during sports, and whenever he sees one we are driving around, he comments on it or sings the jingle.

The girls have become obsessed with the latest fad: mini Brands.  We went to Target and Wal-Mart one night earlier this week, and they were all sold out, so I took them to Five and Below yesterday and it was a successful trip.  It reminds me of Beanie Babies and slap bracelets when I was a kid.

Last bit of news for this week: Archie had to go to the vet yesterday so that they could check his eye, which had been gunky for a few days. (Before we left England it was his right eye and now it's his left eye.)  So, the vet said that he has low tear production and we may need to take him to an animal opthamologist.  (SERIOUSLY?!?!?)  But, we are going to keep tabs on it for a couple of weeks.  I think it could be related to the stress of moving, coupled with the conjuctivitis and the air conditioning.  I sure hope the doesn't have to have eyedrops for the rest of his life because we have to put him in a muzzle and hold his front paws to get the eyedrops in.  It's a Struggle.  He needs some interaction with other dogs and more exercise.
