Back to real life.....
Yesterday some semblance of normal life returned to the Scheiner household. Drew had his first day of school, which consisted of joining a class meeting on Google classrooms for a few minutes where he was able to see his teacher and some of his classmates, and then she posted a slideshow of independent work to do as they are to do this week, since they start in person school tomorrow!! His teacher is very organised and very patient and willing to receive phone calls and texts from parents. I am excited that he gets to go to school in person, although I am not excited to be driving to and from my mom's house twice a day but I suppose it will break me into the American way of driving very quickly. His day begins at 7:40 AM so that's earlier start for all of us.
We were hoping the girls could start yesterday as well, but they were unable to log onto their chromebooks. But the IT teacher came through and we were able to logon by late afternoon. Lauren's math teacher actually called me on the phone, and she was super helpful. We have gotten them mostly set up on Google classrooms. I am very impressed with how organised they are with everything. The girls will begin in person school two or three days a week from 28 September. Lauren knows a few people in most of her classes, which should be helpful. I think Alison is very nervous.
Brad had his first day of work yesterday as well. He had mostly meetings to get to know people and it was good. He said the CEO/founder came on the first call and he was wearing a Def Leopard t-shirt, cut off jeans and tevas. So I would say the company is pretty relaxed. He has gone into the office to meet people face to face this morning, which will be good for him for sure.
I have to say the one aspect of things that really stands out to me is the southern hospitality. Everyone that I spoke to at the school was so nice and very helpful. And Brad said he has never been called "hon" so many times in one day!
