Pride Week 2023

But not the type of pride you are thinking of...it is Trinty/Saint Xavier pride week!  A week of Trinity - Saint X games culminating in the varsity football game on Friday night at UofL stadium!  Lauren has been a busy girl this week.   Monday - JV football game at Saint X.  Trinity won 33-35, but Saint Xavier made a valiant effort at a comeback. Wednesday - Varsity soccer game at Trinity.  A 2-2 draw, but a great game full of action.  The cheerleaders stood on the bleachers and cheered the entire game.  It was different from football because they were able to watch the entire game.  They also practiced their half time show; the girls were upset because they did not cue their music properly, but the parents loved it!!! Thursday - Freshman football game at Saint X. Trinity won 50-7, not the best showing, but the girls did great!  The halftime show is fabulous!! And Alison went to the freshman sleepover before the walk, and she was l...

High School Football Games

This week, I realized that I have spent the first four Friday nights of the school year at a high school football game.  I have not been to a high school football game since I was in high school!!  Since Saint X had the week off, we were able to go to the North Oldham for the opening of their new teal field which has been dubbed "The pool."  Brad & I both went, along with Drew and his friend Nick.  The field looks pretty cool, and the crowd was packed!  I think I heard someone say it was the biggest crowd ever at NOHS. The other excitement this week was Drew, Ali, Brad and Papa went to the Michigan game.  It was Ali's first time ever in the Big House.  The weather was perfect and they won, so it was a great first experience.  The gymnastics team was eating at Pizza House at the same time that they were there, but Ali was too embarrassed to say hello. I have also been watching the US Open.  The Arthur Ashe stadium is much larger than...

Reflection on our varied places of living

This week, all the kids in New Jersey started school. (New Jersey is where our family started, where we bought our first house and was the first house where all 3 of the kids lived.  We left there just before Lauren started kindergarten and Drew was 6 months old.) One of my friends posted a photo of her son (who is a senior this year) and she posted photos of him with the same kids this year as the year he started kindergarten.  One of my friends here also posted a photo of her son who is a senior with kids he is still friends with now.  It made me think about my kids and how they have started their milestones in all different places, without that continuity. Lauren started kindergarten in Kentucky and then we moved to London.  Alison did all of her elementary school years in London. Drew did half of his elementary school in London and half in Kentucky. And even though we are back in Kentucky, we don't live in the same neighborhood. I spent my entire life in th...

The week with the Mock Schedule Night

We are all in our groove for the most part.  It is hard to believe it is already September and the unofficial end to summer.  The weather was beautiful for the first part of the week, it was feeling like fall in the mornings and not too hot in the afternoons, but the heat was back this weekend.  Typical menopausal Kentucky weather. The girls went to the Assumption-Sacred Heart volleyball game on Tuesday night: Lauren was taking photos and Ali was a spectator.  I am glad they are getting into the spirit of high school sports.   Lauren had her first official dance rehearsal for the show, after cheer practice, which made for a long day, but she came home in a great mood and said she is really happy that she is doing the show. I am glad too, because it is probably her last show as a cast member if she continues to do cheer.  It will depend on the musical they decide to do next year.  I am glad she is a part of it as well, since last year she got...
