How is it Thanksgiving week ALREADY?
Wow, it has been quite a busy November....it is already Thanksgiving week, and I do not know where the time has gone. As the kids get older, I swear time passes in double (sometimes even triple) time. I wonder if once the kids are out of the house, time slows down again like it did when they were small?
Drew had a great birthday celebration. Birthday dinner at Texas Roadhouse, where he demolished an entire filet. He is not shy about his love of red meat. Saturday night, three friends came over to watch the Michigan-Purdue game and sleepover. A boy sleepover is a lot quieter than a girl sleepover. I continue to be so thankful that all three of the kids have picked good friends who are polite and gracious.
Lauren and I went to the final show of Momma Mia, and I am glad she able to see the show, but I know it was a different experience for her to sit in the audience rather than participate on stage. It was heart warming to me as a mom to see her friends so happy to see her. Darn Covid.
We received an email that Drew's soccer club is merging with another local club, which was a shock. But most definitely positive news. It has been a bit of a frustrating few months both from the soccer side and the administration size. We look forward to the spring and the boys to be able to build on the start to their first 11v11 season. I am so glad that all of Drew's teammates have opted to continue with the new club because it is such a great group of kids and families!
Lauren then cheered in the final game of Saint X's season this year: second round playoff game against Trinity. They lost, but I know Lauren was thankful she was able to cheer with her friend Isabelle, who made the JV team just after fall break.
Then, I was off to Tampa, FL for a getaway with my tennis team. Of 22 team members, 16 of us took over the Tampa Palms Country Club for 3 nights of tennis and fun! The hotel rooms were HUGE (2 king size beds in our room) but need a bit of updating. The club had many great amenities, including a common room that we took over to eat meals and play games. The food and service were top notch, and the tennis was so much fun! I would play tennis several hours a day if I could! Sunday was about 5 hours of tennis, including match play with a few players that were locals and it was HOT!! Monday's weather was much more bearable, and after out instruction was over, we ended up staying and playing around for several hours. One of the pros even brought his son to play with us! I will be forever grateful for finding tennis and showing myself that you CAN take up a new hobby at age 45. I met an 80 year old at a fast feed, and she said she had started playing when she was 45. Tennis is definitely something you can do for a long time.
Brad and my mom were able to manage the kids and all their activities while I was gone. Drew had to miss the first of 2 games because of the stomach flu. And Lauren had her first cheer competition, which was thankfully pretty local. The only mishap while I was gone is that the girls were attempting a Tik Tik move, and Ali feel on her shoulder funny and I get a text from Brad that he thinks she has torn her rotator cuff (he does have a tendency to go to the worst possible scenario), but it turns out to be just a strain. BUT she did have to miss her first competition. The next one is not for three more weeks, so fingers crossed she is able to compete for the remainder of the season.
This past weekend was the first time that all three kids have needed to be somewhere all at the same time. Drew's last soccer game was in Cincinnati, Lauren's regional cheer competition (for a bid to nationals!) in Lexington, and Ali's freshman dance. Brad was on soccer duty and the boys won their last game as Elite players! I drove to Lexington and witnessed the girls securing a bid to Disney and after treating Lauren to a meal, met Ali, her friends and their moms at the restaurant. As my final duty of the weekend, I picked the girls up from school and drove them all home. They were unimpressed by the dance; they were all beautiful and enjoyed spending time getting ready and eating dinner out.
Ali and I went to support her teammates at the competition on Sunday. It is a lot less stressful when your kid is not competing, but I missed seeing her do her thing. It feels like such a long time since I have seen her do anything, since I rarely set foot in the gym anymore!
2 days from Thanksgiving and I have so much gratitude for my life and all the people in it!
