Week Two: The one where we sweat our bums off!
Oh My Goodness was it hot this past week????? So many outdoor activities cancelled, including Drew's first soccer practice of the week. And I can't remember a time when I sweat as much as I did at my first tennis match on Friday. After the heat came the storms on Friday night.
The Saint X game was being played at Central High School, in downtown Louisville. The game had been pushed back an hour and a half because of the heat, and as soon as the cheerleaders set foot on the track and were ready to start cheering, the skies opened and the rain came! The cheerleaders and football players rushed off the field, and all the spectators ran for cover, of which there was not much. Brad went into the mens room and I stood under the umbrella. The thunder and lightning were fantastic and we knew the game was not going to happen. We drove to Saint X so Brad could drive Lauren's car home as it was not a good idea for her to be driving in the pouring rain.
Thursday night was interesting because all the kids were downstairs in the kitchen working on homework. Drew is having to really work hard at pre-algebra, which is a good thing because he has never really had to work at anything before. It is nice to see the girls trying to help him.
Lauren auditioned for the dance ensemble in Mamma Mia, and she got a part! She was very excited, but also very nervous because it means that she will have to miss the very last football game because it coincides with opening night. I told her to just talk to her cheer coach, and she would understand, and she did understand, so she is going to be even busier! The new theatre teacher/director had a meeting for the cast, crew and parents last week, and I really enjoyed his presentation. He started his career with Missoula Children's Theater, which is a travelling theater company that brings theater to children who would otherwise not have the opportunity and they rehearse and put on a show in a week and then move on to the next city. Ali has signed up to be on the hair and makeup crew for the show, but is trying decide if it is a good fit for her. They had their first rehearsal on Saturday.
All in all, everyone is pretty much settled in to their new routines. I am still trying to figure out how to accomplish all my morning tasks between waking the girls up, packing Ali's lunch, and then getting Drew's breakfast and packing his lunch. He gets up on his own mostly; I did have to wake him up a couple of times last week, but for the most part he is usually up about the time the girls are leaving. I think Brad is enjoying being on his own schedule and not having to leave at a specific time each day. Ali is usually the first of the girls ready, but that is what I expected! Lauren has been better so far about getting up though.
The final new thing that happened last week is that Drew got his first allergy shot. He will be getting them up to 3 times per week until he has worked up to the full dose, and then he will go once a week. He said it didn't really hurt and he kind of forgot about them by the time he got to school.
Poor Archie has had more time home alone than he has since last school year, but he seems to be handling it ok.
