High School

This year is Lauren’s last year of middle school, which means that next year, she will be in HIGH SCHOOL.  Only 4 more years until she goes to college.

We have begun the process of looking at schools.  A couple months ago, she had been doing some research and decided that she wanted to go to Assumption, a great all girls Catholic school.  She had numerous reasons including uniforms, small class sizes, and lots of extracurricular activities.  She and Brad went and took a tour last week (after it had to be rescheduled twice because of snow!) and the school exceeded her expectations; Brad said it met his expectations.  They sent her away with all sorts of swag: sweatshirt, t-shirt, keychain, backpack, facemask.  She was ready to enroll.  However, we are a bit concerned about how she will get to school, as it’s in town and about a 20-25 minute drive and there are no buses; Lauren will also have to up and dressed and ready to walk out the door at 7:30 to be at school at the start time of 8:05.  We challenged her to wake up on her own everyday and be ready by 7:30 for an entire week.  I was impressed to see her downstairs at 6:30 this morning of her own accord!!!

We are also keeping our options open with the local high school, North Oldham, which is one of the best high schools in the state of Kentucky.  There was a parents open evening (virtual of course) last week as well and I was very impressed with the school and the presentation.  They even have AP classes for 9th graders!

The biggest differences are that Assumption is all girls and has much smaller class sizes; also, a world language is required for at least 2 years; at NOHS, it is highly recommended.  Transportation to NOHS would be a non-issue.

Lauren is very confused and has lots of questions about the US high school system because she only really knows the British system, which Brad and I found very confusing!  I can see where she is coming from; the British system does seem a little more straight-forward, however, the school enrollment process is a bit more daunting.

We should know by the time Spring Break rolls around where Lauren will graduate in the Class of 2025!

(And also after Spring Break, the girls will be going to in person school 5 days a week!!!!!! WOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!)
