School Days
Drew went to his first day of in person school today. He was a bit nervous last night, but in the car on the way he said he was excited. He decided to wear his Chelsea kit, socks and all!
Since we are staying at my mom's house, which is in a different county than the kids school, I am driving Drew to and from school until we get into our house(which will hopefully be in about 2 weeks!) It is a great way to get used to driving a lot. It was nostalgic to drive back into our old neighborhood and the school where Lauren used to attend. But, I can't lie I will be soooooooo happy when he can just get on the bus in our neighborhood. It's a lot to make 2 trips there everyday.
Drew was happy when he came out of school, and he said he met a friend who lives on the same street where our house is, which would be amazing as would have a buddy to ride with on the bus. He also said they had music, but Kentucky law says they cannot sing because of the risk of spreading the virus. I just feel for the kids. School and everything is not what it should be. They have to wear masks all day at school except when they are at recess, having their snack break, or having lunch. And they take their temperature before they get out of the car. Drew said that school here is completely different than in England!
Drew tried out one soccer club tonight and then try out another soccer club on Monday to find the best fit. The interesting thing is that both coaches are English!
I think we have finally gotten the girls are set up on their NTI (Non - Traditional Instruction.) It was a bit daunting, but I feel we are all set now. I am super impressed with how they have organised everything. For middle school, they have 4 main classes (english, math, social studies and science). On Monday and Thursday, they have two of the classes either a live lesson on Google Meet or pre-recorded video; then they have the other two classes on Tuesday and Friday. And Wednesday is for small group meetings. They have homework set for all the classes each day. They are definitely maximizing the Google classrooms capability. I am not sure how it all going to work in a week and a half when they are in school half of the time, but I am complete confidence they have a great plan.
Archie is the most challenging at the moment I think! He just takes off outside and just runs and it's hard to catch him. He ran across the street twice on Tuesday and then we went to Anne's to go swimming and he slipped out her door and was off to the races. I am scared for what is going to happen when we get into our house and there's the golf course right in the backyard! I did buy a cable tie that is around a tree outside, and he will just come to the backdoor when he is ready to come in. I am hoping we will somehow be able to train him to not go past a certain part of the backyard, but the golf course is actually really close to our backyard! He is enjoying eating all of the pinecones in my mom's backyard.
